Course Outline

Module 1: Design vs. Development

This module introduces the foundational concepts of organizational design (OD) and development. It explores their distinctions, the regionalized understanding of OD, and showcases the Samsung story as a case study. Key topics include the definition and terminology of OD, the essential "WHW" framework, and how structure and design interact to shape organizational success.

Module 2: Agility in Organizational Design

Focuses on the role of agility in modern organizational design. Participants will learn about the Organizational Design and Agility (ODA) process, its phases, and the Congruence Model. The module also examines the impact of culture on OD, the importance of reorganization, and strategies to foster agility for improved adaptability and innovation.

Module 3: Empathy & Futures Thinking

This module highlights the critical importance of empathy and futures thinking in organizational design. Participants will explore tools and techniques to empathize with stakeholders, understand the impact of emerging trends, and apply futures-oriented approaches like the 3 Horizons framework. The session also emphasizes internal and external scanning to prepare for disruptions.

Module 4: Defining the Problem

This module helps participants assess organizational readiness for ODA by identifying internal and external challenges. It explores innovative OD system models, stakeholder strategy analysis, and areas for improvement. Participants will also examine potential solutions tailored to foster agility and align with organizational goals.

Module 5: Design Phase: OD and Agility

Participants will learn how to ideate effectively in OD, develop comprehensive design plans for organizational change, and define roles and responsibilities within new structures. This module also focuses on risk mitigation, governance design, and decision-making processes, ensuring a structured and scalable design phase.

Module 6: Organization Design Principles and Models in ODA

This module dives deep into organizational principles and models that drive agility. Participants will explore various OD models, diagnosis methods, and factors influencing agility. Topics include common organizational structures, their components, and how to apply these principles to achieve flexible and efficient designs.

Module 7: Iterative Design, Testing, and Implementation

Explores iterative methods to refine and implement OD strategies. Key topics include prototyping tools, RACI testing, visualization techniques, and the introduction of network teams. Participants will learn change management strategies and best practices for monitoring progress, evaluating outcomes, and measuring ROI in organizational reconstruction.

The module covers the nature, scope, and management of change, along with best practices in monitoring progress and evaluating the effectiveness of OD solutions. Measuring ROI and ensuring alignment with business goals are also emphasized.

Module 9: OD Roadmap & Disruption as an Opportunity

This module presents a structured roadmap for organizational design. Participants will analyze the current state, engage stakeholders, select design elements, and implement and monitor changes. Additionally, it explores how disruptions can act as catalysts for innovation and highlights strategies for leveraging these opportunities.
